Hoy empieza el mes de marzo, y por tanto el mes de concienciación sobre la endometriosis. Ya expliqué el año pasado de que va esto - desde el año 2002 durante este mes se celebran una serie de actos, como charlas informativas, marchas, manifestaciones y conferencias con el fin de dar a conocer la existencia de la endometriosis, informar sobre ella y así aumentar la concienciación en la sociedad. Todo esto empezó en Estados Unidos, y ahí es donde todavía más actos hay, pero poco a poco el concepto del "mes de la endometriosis" se esta dando a conocer también en el resto del mundo. No por último a ello han contribuido los medios sociales, como diversos blogs, twitter o facebook, donde se va compartiendo esta información, se establece el contacto entre mujeres afectadas y se inician actos.
La concienciación por la endometriosis se simboliza con un lazo amarillo (de forma similar como algunas otras enfermedades tienen su lazo, como por ejemplo el lazo rosa para el cáncer de mama o el lazo rojo para el sida). Por ende, el color simbólico de la endometriosis es también el amarillo.
Una serie de propuestas para este mes, que van rondando por las redes sociales (especialmente twitter y facebook), son:
- Vestir de amarillo o por lo menos ponerse alguna prenda u accesorio de color amarillo
- Cambiar la imagen avatar en las redes sociales por una imagen teñida de amarillo o el lazo amarillo
- Postear una "selfie"/autofoto sosteniendo un papel sobre el que está escrito el número de años que una tuvo que esperar hasta ser diagnosticada correctamente de endometriosis (esto viene de twitter y se difunde bajo #TooLong)
Por supuesto, el hecho de vestir de amarillo o difundir selfies no va a curar la enfermedad, pero la idea es hablar sobre la ella, darla a conocer, informar sobre su mera existencia.
Luego tenemos la Endomarcha o marcha mundial por la endometriosis, un evento internacional que tendrá lugar el 28 de Marzo (cae un sábado). La idea es organizar una serie de manifestaciones o marchas en muchos países del mundo, también con el fin de dar a conocer la endometriosis, divulgar sobre la enfermedad y revindicar un mejor trato de las mujeres afectadas en el sistema de salud así como más investigación.

Está bien éste tipo de iniciativas dónde de algún modo se intenta dar visibilidad a la enfermedad que padecemos. Lo cierto es que es asombroso que exista un vacío tan grande con respecto a la Endometriosis. A día de hoy, a pesar de los avances en medicina ginecológica, ni existe cura ni los especialistas saben porqué se produce.
A través de mi experiencia, conozco la enfermedad y nuestra ilusión es que algún dia, más pronto que tarde, den solución a un problema tan común.
